Tell us a little about yourself?

I work full-time in Transport, and I’m in my mid 40s, so it’s very important to me to keep on top of my finances as decisions I make now will have a big impact on the next decades for me. I actually enjoy keeping track of finances and thinking about how various decisions will impact investments and ongoing budgets.

How would you describe your role in your household?

I look after most of the bills in the household and keep track of budgets.

What drew you to PocketSmith?

I was looking for new money management software that would make tracking transactions and budget forecasting easy. I was also wanting to make this process easier with transactions being imported into the software.

How long have you been with us?

I’ve been with PocketSmith just over two years now.

What do you primarily use PocketSmith for?

My main use of PocketSmith is to keep track of my spending and watch my budgets. As all my accounts are in one place, I find it really easy to see a full overview of all my accounts and watch how my overall financial position is changing.

How has PocketSmith changed the way you do money?

I find it much easier now to keep an eye on my budgets and see where my money is actually going, rather than where I think it is going. It’s also good to keep an eye on the projection for the next few months to make sure that my finances are on track for upcoming bills and other expenses, such as holidays.

What are your favourite features?

The bank feeds make tracking spending really effortless, and along with the category rule function, make it easy to manage transactions and put them into the correct budget items.

Got any tips?

I think the most important thing is to always have a full overview of your financial situation, as without that, you can’t make any plans or decisions based on the reality of the situation. It’s not easy sometimes looking at finances (especially when they aren’t great!), but an honest look makes all the difference.

What’s the best money decision you made in the past 12 months?

Looking at my offset accounts to make sure I was putting money in the right place to help reduce mortgage interest, and then splitting up my salary to be paid into different accounts.
