Software Engineer (full stack, back-end oriented)

Location: Dunedin, Thames or remote in New Zealand

PocketSmith is one of the world's most comprehensive and innovative personal finance solutions. We build excellent money management software used by people from Angola to Zurich.

Beyond this, our goal is to help our users improve their relationship with their money. This is a rewarding problem to solve as a team, particularly as good financial management changes our customers' lives for the better.

You'll be joining our back-end engineering team to evolve and improve the PocketSmith platform, but may also dabble in the front-end occassionally.

You'll have experience in web development with a solid work history, with code samples to back you up.

Your integrity will be beyond reproach, and you will have the utmost respect for the information people entrust PocketSmith with. You've got a passion for personal finance, or you've had some experience managing your own money.

Our engineering team is a small close-knit team which punches above its weight. We're based throughout the country, but meet together in our home city Dunedin a few times a year. We're a remote-first team, but appreciate the opportunity to all get into a room together.

We pride ourselves on a flexible work environment, where needing to pick the kids up or head to an appointment is never an issue. We have proven systems in place that allow our people to manage how their work day is structured.

Are you a good fit? What we need:

  • Experience in server-side web programming (we use Rails).
  • Ideally some front end web skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Experience in delivering web applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work with a distributed team.
  • Comfortable in a command line environment.
  • Comfortable with or willing to learn macOS.

Other things to know:

  • This is a full-time, permanent position, starting ASAP.
  • You can work remotely, or from one of our offices in Dunedin or Thames.
  • We provide you with a dev machine and a hardware budget.
  • You must be legally able to work in New Zealand.
  • Applications are open until we find the right person.

We'd love to hear from you! Send us your details and some samples of your work to [email protected].
