More on The Distiller – Dunedin Web Entrepreneur Network

Thursday, January 29th, 2009 by James

Seeing as how our last post was way back at the start of the month, I thought I would just put up a very quick post about something that ourselves at PocketSmith, along with two other Dunedin entrepreneurs (Pierre-Em Perruchot de La Bussiere http://www.pierre-em.com and Tim Calder http://www.calder.net.nz) have founded – The Distiller (initial web presence up at http://www.thedistiller.org – much more to come!).

I won’t go into detail about how this all came about – I’ll leave that to one of the other founders (nudge nudge), but I will discuss what our intention is for this network.

What we are doing is forming a concentrated group that assists web entrepreneurs in bringing their ideas to prototype stage, using our collective experience. We want to provide a network of support for budding web entrepreneurs, and a conducive environment for:

  1. Sounding ideas off current practitioners, and allow transfer of knowledge to occur between Distiller members in relation to both business and technical aspects
  2. Sourcing potential co-founders and connecting clever people with one another
  3. Providing the tools, work spaces and advice to get fledgling ideas through to the prototype stage
  4. Becoming a ‘unified-front’ for networking to external funding and investment sources

However we are all adherents to agile methodologies from both business and development perspectives, so it is extremely likely that the above manifesto will evolve and change like everything else :)

And if you would like to pop up anytime, our address and details are here – http://schmap.me/thedistiller/ – we’d love to see you!
